The inspiration for this design is the four elements: earth, wind, fire, and water. The skirt is mostly silk with some rayon pieces, and uses many different dye techniques, including shibori thread tying and pole-wrapping, batik, low-water immersion, and potato and cornstarch dextrin. The circle skirt is two layers of silk; the bottom a dip-dyed gray with an attached ruffle, and the top divided and painted with acid dyes the four colors of the elements. Then small pieces of dyed fabric were collaged and stitched on top of the painted layer. It was displayed against a wall with dyed scarves artfully arranged in the center. The second photo shows what it looks like when worn.
