I am a professional costume designer and creator of custom clothing and costumes under the label Originals by Katharine Tracy. My label name is my first and middle name, as my mother named me for Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. I grew up on classic Hollywood movies and musicals, and I absorbed the costumes from those films into my blood, carrying a vintage aesthetic to this day. I am a creator of bespoke costumes, wearable heirlooms, and provider of upscale alterations that helps clients make unique fashion statements with collaboration and care. My decades of experience in theater and dance design and construction, partnered with years of bridal, pageant, and formal alterations work, means that I am capable of using a wide range of fabrics to execute a variety of creative visions. As a costume designer, the most important role I have is to collaborate with the director and other designers in order to creatively tell the story that the director is aiming to tell, within budget and on time. I also work with the actors, putting them at ease and aiding them in their character work. I bring these skills into my work under Originals by Katharine Tracy as well. People imagine themselves attending an event or appearing on stage, and often they struggle to bring that vision to reality. With my skills, I am able to realize that imagined self image for my clients. Competitive dancers want a one-of-a-kind costume that will draw the judges eyes, accentuate the body line, and help set the tone of the song and choreography. Mothers want their daughters to be able to use their wedding gowns in some way, whether that be a getting-ready robe or ring bearer pillow or creating a reception dress. Cosplayers and festival-goers want fun and wearable costumes they can use multiple times. And women of all kinds want custom or tailored formal and bridal wear that makes them feel their best whatever the occasion.
