The Madwoman of Chaillot

by Jean Giraudoux

This is a spec design set in a steam punk world. The process first involved in depth character research based on the script, then pulling inspirational images for each character, and finally researching the steam punk culture. In this world, all those who work to support the established system have had alterations done to their body – the cop is literally the "strongarm" of the law. The press agents drive a "press machine" and their shirts are yellow as an acknowledgement of the "yellow press". Everyone who works even casually in an official capacity (including the waitstaff) wears a gear pin. They are all part of the machine of the state. Those that work "underground", the unfortunates, wear leather and fur, and they are subversive in subtle ways. The old mad women dress in the clothes of their youth (1830's) and adorn themselves with their various obsessions (rings, time, discarded documents).
